my Work
Art, for me, is a guttural demand. My work explores the complexity of trauma and grief-challenging the ideology art needs to be pleasant for consumption. My mediums of choice highlight the expressive energy, movement, and emotion in their texture, bright color, and contrast. Most recently, I have been transferring these qualities to digital artwork while equally giving time to oil painting, oil pastels, charcoal, graphite and mixed media with a desire to work larger and larger. My process ranges from quick sketches, an idea bugging me for days until I get it down, being inspired by my writing, or a purely whimsical illustration.
How did I get here?
I too have a standard ‘I’ve been doing art since the moment I can remember’. However, like any good craft, we have taken space—or the perception of space. I graduated from Syracuse University in 2022 with a degree in Environmental and Interior Design. I love the structure design has given me and in many ways these skills overlap. In my degree title of Bachelor of Fine Arts and many studios and proposed murals later, I failed to realize how art had never left me.
Why am I here?
Overall, my work is about creating space-from the literal sense in interiors to the metaphorical sense in art to share my story and yours. It is not my place to tell the viewer how they feel or what they see, but to give space to the loud, the weird, the whimsical, the uncanny, and the undigestible.
